Interview

PRP Co-Chair Jack Goldsmith on CNN International

February 17, 2022

Presidential Reform Project co-chair Jack Goldsmith joined CNN International’s Amanpour to discuss former president Trump’s destruction of documents in contravention of the Presidential Records Act.

“When Congress enacted the Presidential Records Act and imposed these duties to preserve these documents,” Goldsmith said, “it didn’t actually provide an enforcement scheme. Many of the 1970s reforms of the Presidency laid down these important laws and norms and didn’t provide a scheme for enforcement on the assumption that presidents would comply. And presidents for the most part, until Trump, did comply.”
